Después de treinta años de estado de excepción intermitente, Sri Lanka levanta por fin las leyes de emergencia que restringían las libertades a sus ciudadanos desde que empezó el conflicto con los Tigres Tamiles, derrotados en 2009. La decisión, sin embargo, tiene un revés: las leyes antiterroristas mantendrán a partir de ahora muchas de las restricciones del pasado, entre ellas una que es esencial, la detención preventiva de muchos de los supuestos combatientes tamiles.

Lessons to be learnt from the massacre in Norway

Immediately after the attack in Oslo everyone began speculating of Islamic terrorism and started analyzing Norwegian foreign policy to find possible reasons for another al Qaeda-related attack. It turned out, however, that this brutal crime was the work of a Muslim-hating native Norwegian. Perhaps the time has come to reflect on the western understanding of terrorism, so closely related to Islam in the last decade.
